Provence Pre-Wedding Photoshoot | Château de la Gaude & Lavender Fields
Provence Pre-Wedding Photoshoot Guide
Château de la Gaude, Lavender Fields & Timeless Romance in the South of France
Planning a pre-wedding photoshoot in Provence, France is a dream for couples who love refined European scenery, soft natural light, and editorial elegance. From historic châteaux near Aix-en-Provence to golden sunsets in the lavender fields of Valensole, Provence offers extraordinary variety within a single day.
In this blog post, I’m sharing a real Provence pre-wedding photography experience with K & J from Hong Kong, including practical planning tips, permit costs, the best time to shoot, and styling advice, so you can plan your own Provence pre-wedding shoot with confidence.
Morning Editorial Shoot at Château de la Gaude
Photography Permission & Cost
We began the day at Château de la Gaude, one of the most elegant château settings near Aix-en-Provence.
Private garden booking: approx. €800 for the full morning
Permission is required for professional photography
Booking must be arranged in advance, especially in peak season
Early morning is the best time to shoot here — the gardens are quiet, the light is soft, and the atmosphere feels intimate and exclusive. This setting is perfect for editorial bridal portraits that feel luxurious yet effortless.
Second Look Around the Château
After the garden session, K & J changed into a second look and we photographed around the château exterior in the afternoon.
This creates visual variety while keeping everything cohesive — ideal for couples who want a full editorial story without rushing between locations.
Styling Details: Dress, Makeup & Colour Choices
Bridal gown: Eva Lendel — modern, clean silhouettes that photograph beautifully in natural light
Makeup artist: Kristy from kristylimakeup.com
Kristy’s refined, long-lasting makeup style is especially suited for destination pre-wedding shoots in Europe.
Provence Styling Tip
For château settings, neutral tones and structured gowns work best.
For lavender fields, consider yellow or warm pastel tones — yellow creates a stunning contrast against the purple fields and photographs exceptionally well.
Sunset Lavender Fields at Valensole
Best Time for Lavender Photos
Lavender season: Mid-June to early July
Best light: Golden hour to sunset
Weekdays are quieter and more relaxed and lavender harvesting depends on weather and farming schedules, so timing is critical. I always help couples plan around peak bloom and provide alternative locations if needed.
Parking & Access
Parking is usually possible along the roadside
Be respectful of private farmland
No permits are typically required for short sessions
As it was the hottest day in the year, there was a thunderstorm when we arrived at the lavender field. However the storm didn’t last, but since we already had pictures taken at the Chateau Garden with lavenders, J & K decided to just do a few pictures and head for dinner!
